Protocol for When You Are Starting to Feel Sick

Not only is getting sick annoying and inconvenient in and of itself, but when it derails my weekend plans to get outside… then you can bet this mama bear is NOT happy! Although I haven’t taken an antibiotic in over 5 years, I’ve still had my share of seasonal colds. However, this year, even while being pregnant and having a lower immune system, I’ve been able to keep the colds at bay and no outside plans have been ruined (fingers crossed!)!

The couple of times I really started to feel a cold coming on — you know, that extra tired, maybe the start of a scratchy throat, groggy, brain fog feeling — I buckled down down and followed my natural protocol! And, so far it has worked like a charm!

DISCLAIMER: This is not my everyday stay healthy protocol. This is my protocol I follow on TOP of an every day stay healthy routine. Meaning, don’t expect to load your system with sugar, no sleep, toxic laundry detergent, clean with bleach, and then expect these steps to perform like magic.

When I’m Starting to Feel Sick I…

If you would rather watch me explain over some cheesy Instagram story videos… see the video below. :)

Load Up on Vitamin C:

I think we can all agree that Vitamin C is good for us! Most of us probably consume some sort of “vitamin C” to help kick our colds. The problem is, although your intentions may be good in trying to up your vitamin C levels, your vitamin C source may be useless to your body. Not only that, but the supplement market is a huge money making scheme just like many other markets. It’s important to do your research, read the labels, read the ingredients, and research the source. Because, ultimately, you want a Vitamin C that:

  1. Your body can absorb and methylate into a useful Vitamin C boost

  2. Isn’t filled with other crappy ingredients

  3. Is ethically sourced

All that to say, the farm (Helios Farms) where we get our meat and raw milk introduced us to a whole new world of Vitamin C protocols. The Vitamin C most of the “Vitamin C community” uses and trust is from Revitalize Wellness. Their vitamin C powder is straight up absorbic acid and contains 1000mg of Vitamin C per 1/4 tsp.

Because I’m pregnant being conscious of my Vitamin C tolerance is important. Especially since I’ve only been on the daily Vitamin C protocol for 2 months. So, I take a conservative 1 tsp/ 3x a day.

If you’re not pregnant, you can follow the instructions to do a complete Vitamin C flush to really knock all the crap out of your system. Just be prepared to commit a day to the toilet. :)

Make your own antibiotic bomb:

I’ve been using Young Living essential oils for almost 8 years now. As soon as I start feeling any sort of cold coming on I make myself little vegetable capsules and take the capsules twice a day.

Here is what’s in the antibiotic bomb:

  1. 2 drops of Rosemary essential oil

  2. 2 drops of Oregano essential oil

  3. 2 drops of Thieves essential oil

  4. 2 drops of Basil essential oil

  5. Fill the rest of the capsule up with MCT oil. Maybe even take an extra tsp of MCT oil to dilute all the oils you’re taking.

  6. Drink TONS of water to help your body flush everything out

Anytime you are going to ingest essential oils it’s really important to do your homework. The essential oil you buy from Whole Foods may smell nice, but may not be intended for internal or medical use. I trust Young Living’s oil line for ingesting and I also support how they source their oils sustainably for the environment!

Don’t get sick and play outside!

So next time someone tells you, don’t run in the rain you’ll get sick! Or, you can’t play in the snow today, you’ll catch a cold! Or, be prepared to be sick all the time when you’re pregnant! Then respectfully let them know that you trust your bodies ability to fight off germs and bad bacteria! Ultimately, it’s not the weather, conditions, surroundings, or what we’ve been exposed to that get’s us down with a cold…it is what is going on inside of us!
