What is Thrive market?
First off, if you’re unfamiliar with Thrive here is a quick lo-down! Thrive Market is an online wholesale market to buy healthier items at wholesale price! Think Costco meets Whole Foods!
Not only are you buying items cheaper, but you’re also supporting a family business that gives back to the community. Thrive Market owners say, “Everyone should have access to healthy products, reliable information, and affordable prices.”
They also vet the products they offer in their market really well.
“We don't claim to carry everything—but we do carry the best version of everything. In fact, for every product that makes the cut, there are dozens of others that didn't.
Simple is better when it comes to food—fewer ingredients, transparent sourcing, honest labels. The same goes for makeup. And cleaning supplies. And supplements.”
Paleo Camping and Backpacking Thrive Market Favorites
Planning meals for camping and backpacking is often overwhelming! You don’t want to bring too much… or too little… but also finding healthier backcountry options is difficult!
For the past 1.5 years I have been a member of Thrive Market Pantry and have saved over $1,000 by purchasing healthier options at wholesale cost. Now, this is NOT a thrive market sponsored post or ad! I just wanted to share some of my favorites as I know the struggle of planning food for your trip all too well.
Thrive Market Backpacking & Camping Breakfast Favorites
Chives or Spinach
I LOVE adding dehydrated or dried chives or spinach to eggs for breakfast out in the wilderness. Dehydrated veggies retain much of their nutrient content. I’m always trying to be creative with eating colorful foods for all my meals.
Thrive Market Backpacking & Camping LUNCH Favorites
Salmon Package
This is my FAVORITE salmon to bring on the trail. It’s lighter weight than a can, is filled with protein, DHA, and Omega 3. Great nutrients to keep my brain clear, focused, and energized while enjoying outside time.
Often I mix this salmon with may and eat it in a wrap or on cucumber slices.
Another way we eat the salmon is in soups or with rice.
Coconut Wraps
You may be surprised to find that these wraps are actually delicious! My favorite way to eat them is with a salmon salad.
Crackers
My favorite crackers! Although, most of the time they are in pieces by the time I’m eating them.
Thrive Market Backpacking & Camping DINNER Favorites
Quinoa and Rice
Although I know this isn’t technically “paleo” I have found that I tolerate rice really well! This is a bit heavier so if I’m backpacking I eat it on night #1. It’s a very delicious way to get in a lot of carbs!
This is the only dinner item I have purchased from thrive. Often our dinners include dehydrated bone broth, dehydrated veggies, pho mix, and maybe another pouch of salmon or chicken.
Or, we buy a Paleo freeze dried meal.
Thrive Market Backpacking & Camping SNACK Favorites
Dark Chocolate Almonds
I don’t know what it is about chocolate covered almonds… but ever since a couple shared their dark chocolate almonds with us on a difficult trail in Yosemite, we ALWAYS pack them on our trips. (and not totally Paleo….!)
EPIC Bars
We need quite a bit of protein. Snacking on an EPIC bar, stick, or jerky helps keep our protein intake up!
Plantain Chips
Don’t knock them until you’ve tried them. We are HOOKED on these plantain chips. They also have a siesta lime flavor that is just SO good… especially when you’re hangry in the woods.
Thrive Market Backpacking & Camping MISC. Favorites
Lastly… I purchase these items off thrive and usually bring them in small containers on the trail:
Olive oil or Avocado oil
Paleo Primal Avocado Mayo (this keeps well!)
That’s my round up for now! I don’t buy everything off thrive since they don’t have a large selection of dehydrated/instant/freeze fried foods. But being able to purchase these quality items is a great way to save money and keep nutrition up on the trail!
I source the rest of our food from REI, Amazon, and our local healthy grocery store (New Seasons or Whole Foods).
